I am Co-Investigator on the proposed project (Dr. Patricia Matthews-Juarez PI) to plan a multisite –multi-institution collaboration for a community-centric program to address opioid misuse among the Native American communities. I bring to the project over 30 years’ experience in assessing feasibility studies for Senate appointed healthcare “Certificate of Need” review boards in the State of Missouri.
My professional life as a licensed administrator has centered on developing, building and operating post-acute care facilities for minority communities. Specifically, I have owned and operated skilled, assisted, mental health facilities in Missouri, Florida, Illinois and Tennessee with project management of 21 congregate living communities with over $233 million of new healthcare construction.
Personal Statement
I am Co-Investigator on the proposed project (Dr. Patricia Matthews-Juarez PI) to plan a multisite –multi-institution collaboration for a community-centric program to address opioid misuse among the Chickasaw, Pawnee and Shawnee tribal communities. I bring to the project over 30 years’ experience in assessing feasibility studies for Senate appointed healthcare “Certificate of Need” review boards in the State of Missouri.
Certificates of Need for health facility construction in the following rural communities in Missouri: Ashland, California, Columbia, Fulton, Holtz Summit, Jefferson City, Kirksville, Willard, Windsor, Sweet Springs and Troy. Rural USDA/HUD developments totaling $87,000,000.
My current research focuses the individual trauma experienced by frequent readmission rates due to chronic care conditions (Such as Alcohol and Drug Addictions) and its impact on the financial health of the tribe. I serve the Chickasaw Nation as a Research Fellow and nationally worked with Indian Health Services as a consultant through Tribal-tech, evaluating current mental health serves options throughout Indian Country.
My first graduate thesis was centered on the impact of “Religion/Spirituality as it Impacts the Functional Health of the Elderly.” In Indian Country it is known as “Spiritual Eldering.” I have authored two books on this topic titled “Religion & Healthy Aging” and “Senior Care 2.0” respectively.
Currently, operate a teaching post-acute and chronic-care facility called JB Knowles Home with Meharry Medical College, located in Nashville, Tennessee. In June 2018, we jointly opened a opioid treatment (Suboxone) treatment, supported living program. Dr. Collins and Khalhli are serving as our Medical Directors
